For more than 35 years, the Berlin Accordion Orchestra Euphonia has been an ambassador for the musical possibilities of the accordion. The 20 musicians and their director Philipp present a broad spectrum of accordion literature and keep surprising their audience with the variety of sounds they bring to the stage with their instruments.
The orchestra’s repertoire ranges from tango music to classical arrangements and original compositions for accordion. Euphonia likes to break with the traditional notions of accordion music and is open for all sorts of experiments.
Euphonia was founded in 1985 by Sonja Merz. Since then, the orchestra has steadily succeeded in breaking through traditional perceptions of accordion music. Euphonia has received several awards for its expressive interpretations and distinctive sound on German and international stages. In 2023 Philipp Höning took over as conductor of the orchestra.

Philipp began his musical education on the accordion with Dr. Oona Hingst and played in the “Accordioona Orchestra Berlin” (AOO), which he leads since 2020. After graduating from high school, he decided to study School Music at the University of Potsdam with the artistic major “Ensemble Practice” with Prof. Werner Beidinger. During his studies and beyond, he had many opportunities to gain conducting experience with Prof. Kristian Commichau and the choir and orchestra of the University of Potsdam. He is regular member of the vocal, percussive and dance-performative project ensemble “BodyLab” under the direction of Eve Gubler and Werner Beidinger. Since 2017 Philipp has been working as an independent accordion, keyboard and piano teacher at the music school “ProMusica – Musik macht Schule”.
